Adopted father taken advantage of

In February of 2004 I married my wife. At the time I was young and rushed into a marriage. I knew her for less then two months. She was quick to have me push her immigration papers once we were married. I was in the Marines and worked at Camp Lejeune and she lived in Charlotte, NC. I had to drive every weekend to spend time with her and her daughter Valerie each weekend.
My wife refused to move so that we can live together. That should have been a hint for me at that time.
In 2005 she pushed for me to sign some papers to terminate the rights of Valerie's biological father. Unknowingly she had me sign papers for the adoption of Valerie. I was never explained everything and was gullible.
In 2008 we got divorced. I got tired of the lack of commitment. I was relocated by me job in 2007 to Yuma Arizona and she still wouldn't make the move. I thought a long time about it and gave it many attempts and decided it wasn't going to work out.
We agreed not to file for child support and I agreed to give up my rights to the properties (two) we had together. Again I made a mistake by not getting anything in writing.
Now my credit is ruined because I'm attached to those properties still and she is not making all the payments.
Also she is coming after me for child support for her child. I cared very much for the child, but I was easily replaced by the new boyfriend.
Now me and my new wife are hurting financially. We want to have children of our own, but who wants to bring a new life into this kind of situation.
I don't understand why the government lets people use the system like this.
I gave her Legal status in the country and both of the houses that she wanted.
Yet that's not enough.
