AG is a Joke!!

by Aaron
(Texas)

All the attorney general cares about is collecting money. They do not care if you get to see your child or not..only if you pay. That is why if you don't pay you go to jail. But, if you are kept from seeing your child then the AG does nothing. They always say it is for the well being of the child...BULLCRAP. I believe a child needs both parents and therefore if you are not allowed to see your kids the custodial parent should have to go to jail or the kids be placed with the other parent.

Contempt of court
by: Anonymous

Aaron, if you have court ordered visitation rights all you need to do is tell your ex she is in contempt of court she can go to jail but you have to take her back to court.

Know the Law

You do not seem to understand the duty of the Attorney General's office when it comes to child support. It exists specifically for the purpose of ensuring that children of divorced parents receive the financial support they need for food, clothing, school, activities, etc., to maintain the type of lifestyle the children had prior to the divorce. It is not the duty of the Attorney General's office to make sure that visitation is enforced. If you have a problem with the custodial parent about getting to see your children, then you should hire a private attorney to have the terms of the Divorce Decree enforced or modified. That way, if the ex-spouse (custodial parent) refuses to let you see the children, you can take him/her to court to be found in contempt of the Divorce Decree Order. The AG's office does not run a customer service office where complaints regarding visitation rights can be heard. The Judge presiding over a child support matter can do nothing more than remind the custodial parent that he/she must abide by the terms of visitation outlined in the Divorce Decree. Payment of child support by the non-custodial parent is not contingent upon whether the non-custodial parent gets to see the children or not. There are specific laws regarding child support payment, and the AG's office and the presiding Judge are there to enforce those laws. Visitation issues are to be handled in a civil court matter via modification of the original Divorce Decree.

Only Concerned for Custodial Parent
by: Anonymous

Amen to that! There should be more strict laws about visitation but the Attorney General's Office is not concerned with the non-custodial parent at all. They are only concerned about the custodial parent's rights assuming that the non-custodial parent is a deadbeat dad or mom. My husband tried speaking with the Attorney General's Office on visitation and lowering his payments. The only reply was that they could not help him at all because he needed to hire a lawyer and get a court order. We didn't have money to hire a lawyer at the time and his ex was taking money for children that had moved in with us! But the Attorney General's Office bent over backwards to give her all the free advice and help that she needed! You would have to hire an attorney to get more strict with visitation and even enforcement is lazy with it.

VISITATION RIGHTS
by: Anonymous

NO! NOT REALLY SHOULD THE CUSTODIAN PARENT GOES TO JAIL. THE REASON I SAY THAT IS IT DEPENDS ON THE SITUATION. IF THE NON-COSTODIAL PARENT AND HIS GIRLFRIEND STAYING IN A DRUG AND PROSTITUION MOTEL, GIRLFRIEND PROSTITUTING, DRESSED INAPPROPIATE, AND SENDING THE CHLD TO THE ICE MACHINE BY HERSELF, IT TAKES SECONDS FOR A SEX PREDATOR TO ABDUCT THAT CHILD, HELL NO! HE DOESN'T DESERVE VISITATION RIGHTS WITH THAT KIND OF activity going on.
