KUDOS
by: Anonymous

Reg, I am a recently remarried mom of 2. We are going through this same thing right now, but with my husbands daughter, who is 16. She has always & still believes he is her father, & even after he & her mother were divorced, we are paying child support to them! Crazy, huh! I have tried to convince the parents to tell her ( her father lives in the same town as us & has children her age, but the child does not realize it is her father. I want to commend you on what you are doing. He most likely knew you were his son many years ago, & he needs to stand up to his responsibilities. Please continuously show respect for your "DAD" & know this is a hurtful time for him too! He loved you because he wanted to , not by chance, but by choice. KUDOS TO YOU BOTH!

Collecting Past Due Child Support
by: Anonymous

Was your Dad ever ordered to pay child support? If he was you can file a contempt charge against him if not you need to get an order from the judge to order him to pay back child support.

Reg in Las Vegas NV
by: Disabled Mom

Hi Reg,

Back child support is called "arrearages". You would need to go to a welfare office in your county and ask what the laws are in your state and how to go about applying, your birth certificate, documents like that. Some child support ends at age 18, other states like California have no "statute of limitations". Your mother would have to be involved, I'm sure. I am so sorry she lied to you, you are clearly entitled to all truths and all monies, legally and morally. You may very well need to bring a friend or relative to "advocate" strongly for you. You are of age, as is anyone over age 18 in this country so push on and NEVER, ever give up no matter what anyone tells you. Plenty of people will try and will lie to you, BE READY and God Bless you.
