Any advise?

by BC
(Texas)

My parents divorced when we were young (ages 8,5,3)My father paid child support inconsistently for approximately 2-3 yrs after that. When my father remarried, my mother refused to let us see my father and threatened us if we opened the door when she was not home. At 15, my mother got me a work permit and told me I was now in charge of paying my father's debt. I went to high school full time and although laws prevent this kind of thing, I worked anywhere from 20-30 hrs a week. At 32, I finally decided to marry. By then, I had reestablished a relationship with my father and had made amends. He has 3 other children with his 2nd wife. During preparations for my wedding my mother decided that she did not want my father to attend the wedding. She gave me an ultimatum. When I told her that I would still want my father to walk me down the aisle, she filed charges against my father for child support and requested that his resident alien card be taken away and he be placed in jail. As a state employee, she has taken serious advantage. 1 week before my wedding she finally agreed to mediation. She agreed to 30% of his total income which was determined to be $300/month (even though all of us are over 25 and 2 out of 3 children were married with children). My father recently was laid off. The court order stated that at any time she was only allowed 30% of his income and/or SS retirement. But it did not specify if he should be laid off and collecting unemployment. He still has 2 underage children at home yet ALL of his unemployment is being taken away. He has no income and since the unemployment check is a measly $186.00, she has filed that he is not paying the full amount and wants him to be held in contempt. The courts have not taken into account his current marital status nor the other 2 underage children. Any suggestions???

TO MEN NEED TO PAY!
by: Anonymous

I'M SORRY YOUR NOT GETTING CHILD SUPPORT BUT CHILD SUPPORT IS TO TO SUPPORT THE CHILD NOT THE MOTHER! IF THE CHILD ISN'T WORRRED ABOUT THE CHILD SUPPORT, AND IS WORRIED ABOUT HER FATHER. THAN IT SHOULDN'T BE AN ISSUE. IT IS WOMEN LIKE YOU THAT GIVE THE REST OF US A BAD NAME. I AM SICK AND TIRED OF WOMEN THAT HAVE A DEAD BEAT FOR THEIR CHILDRENS FATHER, TAKING OUT ON THE GOOD FATHERS OUT THEIR. YES THIS MAN SHOULD HAVE PAYED BUT THE MOTHER NEVER PRESSED THE ISSUE UNTIL THE CHILD WAS GOING TO GET MARRIED. SO ALL I MUST SAY IS WALK A MILE IN THEIR SHOES BEFORE EVER MAKING A STUBID COMMENT LIKE THAT AGAIN!!!!ALSO WOMEN HAVE TO PAY CHILD SUPPORT!!! SO DON'T JUST SAY MEN NEED TO PAY!!!!

you are not along

You need to write this same letter to our president so he can see what this system is doing. Here is the web address http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/ I'm glad to see that you have made ammends with your father, but that doesn't give you mother the right to do what she is doing. Saying that you needed to work off your fathers debt when you where younger, that is insane. I see that you and your sibblings are grown up and child support is to support the child not your mother. So please write our president and the Texas legislature, so that others aren't in the same boat. You are not alone their are many non custodial parents in your fathers position being treated the same way.

men need to pay

How do you think she felt when your father left?
It is hard on a mother to support three kids on her own. I know I'm doing it now. And I get no child support.

HOPE THIS HELPS

HOPE THIS HELPS,

I would refer him to a fathers rights lawyer that works for the state. They can see to it that this is amended to suit his present status. Good luck, you and your father deserve some peace.
