Child Support isn't nothing but BS!!!!!!

by Johnnie Dover
(Blount County )

I am currently owed about $20,000.00 in child support. I have not recieved a dime in over 2 yrs now. And has anything been done about it? No! The only thing that has been done is a couple of court dates has been set here & there and he never shows up. So he gets an attachment for contempt of court put on him. Then it take a yr for him to be caught. So he goes to jail for about 3-4 days, gets out, pays some money, is posed to show up for court the following day after he gets out of jail, does not show up (of course), the cash bond gets forfeited, and do I get the money after the child support office clerk tells me I do. No! I do not. I called again today, and was told that I do not get that money, that the clerk was misunderstood, and that money is added on to his arrearages. So what, they could add another $20,000 to them. But it is still not going to get me anything. He was just in jail, and I was told today that he has had an attachment for contempt of child support on him for quite a while. Well, why wasn't anything done while he was in jail over that? I do not understand the child support law. I work, raise 2 kids, only 1 is his, he does not help none. I can not afford to hire a private attorney. And nothing is done to him! He gets out of everything! EVERYTIME!!! The child support law plainly states, "The law does not care if a non-custodial is unemployed, filing for bankruptcy, or even homeless, child support must be paid and will be enforced." But is that really true? Well, I myself do not believe it is.

I know how you feel. I was in the same boat but the difference with mine is they have never put him in jail. They got him in court only once and he never made a payment. I got his tax refund one time and it was about 1000.00 dollars. That is the only money I have ever gotten from him. He was court ordered to pay when my son was 6 months old my son is now 17 years old. I feel that child support enforcement is nothing but a joke and my ex is laughing his head off at them while I struggle to raise my son. I can kinda of see having problems finding him if he lived in a different state than I do, but he lives in Harrison, Ar right in the same town as I do.

"Nothing was done"?

The guy went to JAIL for non-payment.

Either he can't find work or isn't willing to look for it. And now, with a rap sheet, and presumably a suspended license, it will be 10 times harder for him to find work. At this point, under the table pay at $5/hour is better for him than a legit job at $15/hour. He has no incentive to try and get current on his child support because all it means is a lifetime of debt servitude.

The bottom line is no one wants to go to jail, and if he is still not paying after going to jail, he either can't or wont. You need to accept it and move on.
