I have had to deal with multiple states too. With my ex- living in WI, and me now in WA state. I still have to go through the WI courts to change anything. If your son is now 18 and maybe out of school I would contact a lawyer in CA and see what they can do for you long distance if you have too. Even though she lives in WA now CA is still a primary State. Times have changed, in 88' when I was living in WI with my eldest who is now 24, I had to fight for paternity to be established. back then they told me I would have to travel to the state he lived in and fight there. But that is a whole different story. Look into it more and if it comes down to it let the lawyer know that if you have to pay you will pay it directly to your son. He is now 18 and an adult. It will help him get on with his life and may help with your relationship. If you show your interest in your son to the judge, if it gets that far, it may help you to get what you want out of it. Good Luck with this one. Melissa

To Confused in CA by: Disabled Mom
It's been my personal experience born, bred, married, given birth and divorced in CA; your ex can't extort $500 dollars a month from you when child support was never originally ordered in your divorce papers. Also, I understand that the state of residence where the person that filed for the divorce is where jurisdiction lies. Hopefully you will do the right thing and send whatever per month that you can.
