Curious Mom

by Suzanne Mojonnier
(San Diego California)

Well, I just learned that in the State of California there is no statute of limitations on the collection of child support owed. After learning my husband had molested my daughter over an 18 month period, I divorced him. We had 3 children of our own and I was also raising his son of a previous relationship. I got custody of all 4 children and am proud that I did it on my own, raised them without his help although I had a court order stating he pay me $1,000 per month and keep medical insurance on them, Ha Ha. He agreed to reimburse me for medical insurance if I paid for it through my work so that's what I did. Haven't seen a penny, the kids are raised now. My daughter recently visited him in Arizona with his 2nd wife and came back and told me I lived like a pauper and he lived like a king. She also told me I could still go after him for back child support and monies he owed for their support that he never paid. She told me he bragged about the property he owned, that his mother had recently died and had made his current wife in charge of the estate so that if I ever decided to pursue the situation, I still couldn't get a penny from him. Of course, this infuriated my daughter and now she is pushing me to try to collect, for my retirement, because of course I have never been able to afford to buy a home, never able to save a penny, raising four kids on my own. So here goes nothing.
