Custodial Step-Mom of 2 fantastic kids

Contra Costa County, CA does not practice equality under the law when it comes to protecting the children who are entitled to be supported by both parents. The judges in this county have a history over the past 25 years of leniency and non-enforcement for non-custodial mothers. In our case, the non-custodial mother, Maryann Dannels Christensen, of Bakersfield, CA is $131,600 in arrears (Feb., 2011). The Child Support folks will not do more than the minimum (automatic reporting to DMV, etc.) and will not do another 'seek work order' nor look into any felony charges that apply in this case. We have cooperated with the county - in 1993 Ms. Christensen was the first woman on the California State Most Wanted Deadbeat Parent Poster. She was also the first deadbeat parent featured on the cable access Deadbeat Parent program that was simulcast in Contra Costa County. But the judicial system kept giving her continuances when she showed up without court ordered records, et al. And, her ace in the hole 'I'm too upset to continue' always worked on Judge Minney, who was otherwise a very nice man. The only methods that seem to work for a while were the DMV and the 'Seek Work' and now neither of those seem to hold any weight. Now, only a tax intercept seems to be a viable option . . . but only if she stops getting paid 'under the table' and actually can claim a refund.

Non-payment of child support is the most prevelent non-violent crime commited on a daily basis in America and it targets the future of our country - our children. We need as a society to recognize, accept, and deal with the reality that in a some cases parents should be treated as the perps and felons that they are - they prey on their own kids.
