Dads are second class parents in Texas

I met my daughters' mother at the restaruant I worked at and we had a lot of fun together with no commitments. We were never a couple and were never married. After we found she was pregnant she told me she didnt want to get married or take money from me, just to be in the childs life, which I would have never considered otherwise. After about 4 years of good relations I started dating an old ex of mine and eventually got engaged, thats when HELL started.

Because there were no official orders involved she began keeping my daughter from me and threatning to file for back-paid childsupport. I told her I would pay support if thats what she wanted and even gave her all the information to set it up from the attorney generals office but she told me if i wanted to spend time with my kid I had to set it up myself, so I hired a lawyer and got the ball rolling. Long story short I was given standard joint custody (less time than mom) and forced to pay $1000 per month for only 1 child, I was stunned. We live close to eachother and both have successful carriers so I couldnt understand why I was being punished just for being a Dad.

I seems the state of Texas doesnt care about the men its state only the mothers. Her income wasnt even taken into consideration, nor was 50/50 custody an option unless SHE agreed to it. I find this funny seeing how we live in a country where equality is supposed to be the highest value, emancipation proclimation, womens lib, affirmative action, etc etc...Seems equality is only important to women as long as it doesnt interfear with the pocket book. Why is mom automatically given custody at the start of a custody case regardless of financial or housing situations?

Authorities let the mother of my son lie

The mother of my son lied while visiting another state by saying that I back at home with my child was a stranger who kidnapped her child. She gave them false names and everything. The authorities found out and still not only did nothing about her lie but changed the records in order to cover it up. I have proof yet the courts are guilty of not wanting to hear it. Fathers have rights only to pay child support and nothing more. America has become a land of decietful bias storks!

I completely agree with what you're saying. And as a woman that has married a man with a child that is currently paying child support. I think it's really pathetic that Texas doesn't adjust child support payments to the single mother once he and I have children and we will need more money for our children. why is this not considered?

ex bounced his check to TX Child Support Div. now they are coming after ME for the $?!! Come on! The dead beat owes me over 2000 already!!! Why does the state NOT go after the loser who wrote the bad check?

Hello, I reside in the GREAT state of Texas, and I would like to imput here that I can see both sides. I understand that fathers GOOD fathers are upset when it comes to having less time with their children but maybe you should have thought things all the way through before having a child. My daughters father left me in the hospital after saying our little girl didn't look like him. Now he wants to fight me for full custody. I retain a residence a vehicle and a 9-5 job, I don't know what to think about him trying to do this out of nowhere....are my chances higher to get full custody than him?

In addition to your ex owing money to the state, you owe the money back. Your ex wrote a bogus check to the state, the state gave you the money, the check bounced and now you owe. Simple.
Honestly, you would think a state agency full of lawyers would run their payment department with more accuracy. Child support should have ensured the check was cashed before releasing funds.
But what can you say...its the state. They only pay attention when you talk about furlough days.

New the side of life

I'm in at the end of a divorce but have been seperated for 2yrs and paying child support the whole time while I was paying off heavy debt that was run up during last couple of years. We have come to an agreement on child support that works for both of us but was told the judge can decide to toss the agreement out and do his own. How screwed up is that. I don't have a problem paying child support even though I take care of my daughter more often then not. She sleeps at her moms house during the week and me on the weekends but I get to see her every day, and for that I'm greatful. My 18yr old son did ask me the other day why I have to pay when both his mom make more then I do and since I do so much. I didn't have a good answer but after reading this site I can tell him to move out of Texas when he gets married

Texas OAG is full of BS

My ex-husband's employer send the OAG a check to cover the child support. Once they received the check, they release the funds to be direct deposited into my account. Four days later, that check is returned to the OAG marked NSF. Can you make me understand why the OAG sent me a letter stating I owe them the money back? I didn't write the check to them. My ex's wonderful company did. Yes, they released the funds to me while they waited for the check to clear. But, if I wrote a bad check to Wal-Mart for something made by Sony, Wal-Mart will want their money from me. They won't go after Sony for the money. This is total garbage.

Not all women are for womens lib. When men start carrying a child for nine months and giving birth then they sholud gat joint custody or primary custody. Unless the mother is not doing a good job raising the child. Who cares what she makes the amount your giving to support your child is based on your income. I don't understand why men are so greedy when it comes to financially supporting their children. Most women spend far more than what they recieve to raise their children. Sorry you are upset but I completely don't agree.

Suffering in Oklahoma

My husband has a daughter who lives in Texas with her mother. They were never married and the mother USED to live in Oklahoma. In fact, lived here, went to college here & stayed all through the preganancy but decided to move right before their daughter was born. So when paternity, custody & child support came about after her birth the mother of course filed in Vernon, Texas. My husbad has been a resident of Oklahoma his entire life but he has to travel 6 hours (x2 for picking up & taking home) round trip every other weekend to get his daughter, per the court order. All because the mother "claimed" to be a texas resident & filed in the town in which her mother also lives. So due to knowing who they knew the judge ruled that she was indeed a Texas resident. Of course he got shafted by the Texas child support laws which do not take into account the Mother's employment!! Throughout most of these years the mother has made more than the father but Texas doesn't acknowledge this. I myself pay child support for my daughter here in Oklahoma. They DO take the mother & father's income combined along with any health insurance premiums to achieve the total child support due. I don't blame mothers for living in Texas! They can make 100,000.00 a year at their job and still get a hefty child support payment from the father! That's just ridiculous. So not only do they get a majority of the time with the child but they also get to live very comfortably! It just makes us cringe every time we here that his daughter is getting to go on vacations to Key West, Colorado, etc..... We would love to be able to afford to take our kids on vacation! And she gets bought lap tops, ipod touch & all these other Expensive toys!!! We struggle to get Christmas gifts! I hope someday Texas wakes up and sees what's really going on but I seriously doubt it.

join the club of fathers robbed of their children without ever even getting a chance to be one, motherhood appears to be a priority and fathehood is just a sperm donor plus an additional paycheck every month, some say that system can be manipulated quite easily couple kids different dads, someones living large and it ain't the ones who sees their child very little if at all what do you call someone who opens up for money and it's legal and backed by government with interest nevada or texas or for that matter united states jk not alone

Sir, you have been had. I aplaud you for taking the step for child support. But let me tell you I know from experience. If you own any assets you must put them in someone else name that you can trust or sale right away. Live on a cash basis because if you dont any checking or saving , 401k will be taken from you. Yes Texas is only about the mothers. Men in this country are being abused by the system like never before. Texas is the worst but it is very bad system all over the country. Now get a lawyer and you might be able to keep her and the AG off of you. But if you dont get a good lawyer you will get screwed and wont even injoy it. Remember all Lawyers are not created equal. Do your homework. Good luck
