deadbeat dad

by Lois
(Charleston, West Virginia)

My ex-husband and I have been divorced for 10 years. Our son is 13 now. Five years ago I got married and at the time he was a city letter carrier for the US postal service. When I told him I was getting married he quit his job and hasn't paid hardly anything since then. We went to court three years ago and he told the Judge if he allowed him to pay $50 a month then he would try to find employment. Since that was granted he has not worked at all. He now owes my son over $10,000. Child Advocates' philosophy is if he makes an attempt between a 6 month period then he's making an effort. The laws are not on our children's side. If it were, our children would have what is owed to them and the deadbeats would either be in jail or mandated to work. The laws are too lenient on these people and I only wish there was something I could do to change that. It's a shame the kids have to suffer.
