Disabled Mom

by Julie V
(Los Angeles CA)

My particular case is 24+ years old. My arrearages are by no means the most owed but they are exorbitant ($100,000.) and I cannot persuade a judge or commissioner to order my ex to stay at work, so I am still working on a way to get this done. Because they are arrearages I am constantly told he can't go to jail. The rationale given is that they don't want to make the effort to enforce that law. I have written three times to my state director and to my governor and my senator. I also happen to be disabled, this quagmire is affecting my quality-of-life. Another option I have never heard child support websites even suggest is ordering the deadbeat's spouse or girlfriend/boyfriend paying living expenses into court to answer income/asset questions by the custodial parent's attorney. This is a regularly docketed activity and absolutely no one seems to know anything about it. We all agree the child support system is seriously broken and no one is making any attempt to fix it.
