Enforcement of Child Support in Texas, What a Joke

Enforcement of child support in Texas is a joke, they seem to get the orders but don't follow thru. My x was put on 12 years of probation for non payment. ($154.00 a month for two children). But it is my understanding that to this day, he has not complied not once with the probation terms. He was put on probation 1 1/2 years ago. I talked to Gov. Perry's office who stated that I shouldn't depend on a Government agency to get my support, exact quote was if you're children are starving then hire a lawyer. Apparently this representative has no idea if my children were starving, how would I afford a lawyer. My question is, why should my taxes go towards an agency that doesn't do thier jobs? That really don't seem interested in even returning calls from the mothers of children who don't recieve support from the dead beat dads. I even tried talking to Kathy McMichael who is suppose to be one of the top supervisors in Austin for the attorney general's office, I've left 5-6 messages and have not once received a return call. This is an election year, we need to band together to get these good ole boys down here in Texas to listen to the cries of our children who aren't recieving the support that they deserve. We need to vote out the individuals who have the attitude that child support shouldn't be paid.

what a joke!

What doesn't make any sense to me is you go to court to get an order of support. You pay all this money in order to get a lawyer and go to cour to get this order. They are given a date each month that it is to be paid on. They can basically pay or not pay because nothings really going to be done. You have to go back to court and pay more money to get the order enforced which you believed the original order covered. If you don't have the money for a lawyer, which most of us don't, then you have to depend on the Attorney General's office. HA! It doesn't matter if they are ordered to pay on the first of each month. They give them 30 days to pay. Utility companies, mortgage, car, insur, etc don't give 30 days of grace to pay them. Attorney General states they will send out collection letters. They have to be at least 3 months in a row behind before they will take legal action but thats not guaranteed. They will seize any and all lottery winning or IRS refunds. Thats all well and good but not if they don't have anything coming back from the IRS and don't play the lottery. There's a bit misconception about how strict the laws are on deadbeat dads. The truth is, nothing is really being done about them.

Why I'm not going to give the child support money to my son
by: Deeda

I soooo feel your pain. My ex was ordered to pay $220 a month plus $33 a month for insurance. In almost 4 years I may have received 6 months worth of payments.

Last month my presence was requested at a CSR that HE requested. (he didn't show) I brought documentation to show that our sons insurance is now $700 a month due to a change in my companies policy. And because of a pre-existing condition it would be MORE expensive for me to take him of the company insurance to seek out something cheaper.

I was told the best they could do is increase his insurance responsibility to $37. I was told that they could put a lien on his property or inheritance. But he lives with his mother and drives her car. And the likelyhood of some inheritance is slim and none.

He won't work because he doesn't see the point, since he's living off his mom (who's on section 8).

I was also told that there is a slim chance they will ever put him in jail for not paying... WHAT?!?!?! I don't think men should go to jail for falling behind as long ass they are sending SOMETHING. But when they flat out won't pay ANYTHING?!?!?

I refuse to believe he can't at least put $20 a week in mail. Since everytime he calls me he's DRUNK off his behind. He's drinking beer while I'm telling my son he can't have a second helping of Hamburger Helper because we have to save some for tomorrow.

I've never been unemployed. Thank GOD. But the sudden insurance and medical expenses are killing me and I'm two months behind on my mortgage because of it.

Deadbeats love to make the comment that the money is not going directly to the child... And I agree it usually doesn't. That $220 a month would go to make sure there is a roof over my son and that his insurance isn't cancelled.

I don't have a desire to spend it on the things he wants... I'm more concerned about what he NEEDS.
