What most people don't realize is that the state goes after these dads, but do the children ever see a penny of that money, NO! That's right most states keep the whole amount. Here is an example a man is to pay $1,500 a month child support court ordered. Now the mother of the child never collected on the order and he never paid. The mother gets sick and gets disablity and that's not enough to pay the bills etc, so she gets AFDC. What do they do, they go after him. The mother has no choice, or rights unless she claims "good cause" because of abuse. So the mother gets lets say $500 a month from AFDC and $250 in food stamps. A state can take the ex-husband/father to court and not only get current support but back child support also. In most states the mother and children never see a dime, or what they call a disregard of $50. The state keeps it all, that's right the state will make a profit off the back of children and father's and mother's. So don't blame the mother, blame the system. It's broken beyond belief on both side of the matter. One more thing don't expect a case worker in any child support office to know the state rules or law. They don't care and won't ever inform your son of his rights. If you want to fight, go online get your states Child Support Laws print them out study them, find where they could have messed up, get your papers in order and do it on your own. It's the best way, get them on their codes and statues, and believe me they don't know them most judges don't know them, come in with case history like yours, numbers and letter of statues pertaining to your case and then pray!

As a mother... by: Anonymous
I have a son who has had his bank account seized 3 times in the last year alone. His wages are garnished. He has no driver's license. His taxes have gone to pay child support for the last 3 years. He has lost 2 jobs & 3 places to live during the last 3 years a direct result of the collection process. He's had to pay several hundred $ worth of fees to his bank because he has had checks bounce when the child support enforcement cleared out his account with no warning - including rent & utility checks and in one ironic case, a check to child support. His credit is completely ruined. The kicker is that he originally offered to pay child support & she said she wanted nothing to do with him. Then 2 years after the fact, he finds out that she has gone on welfare & the state says he owes over $18k in back child support + interest. Since then, he's been trying to catch up. He's not a dead beat. He really is trying to do right by his son, even though he has no visitation rights & barely knows him. You tell me that's right...
