Father of Six

by Father
(Texas)

Unbeknown by most, the states are paid a generous % of monies to collect on child support. The more child support they collect, the more money the Federal Government pays them for their collections. The states incentive is therefore based on the amount of money they collect. On another note, I have paid for over 15 years and I am currently paid up. The problem with the Texas Child Support Agency is they only care about the custodial parent and their needs. The AG's office will prosecute the non-custodial parent without charging the custodial parent. The non-custodial parent has to pay the attorney fees.

I had to fight for custody of my children to come back to Texas after they had left to go to Colorado. The mother and step father were making over 100,000.00 dollars a year to collect from me. I was making about 28000.00 dollars a year. Secondly, the ex-wife did not get permission from the local courts to take the child out of state. Again, I would have to pay an attorney to stop her. At the time, I had to wait for over a year to come up with the money to pay an attorney and then another year to gain custody. Once I won custody of my children the state continued to take child support from my checks. Eventually I was able to stop it. Let's say about 5000.00 dollars later in attorney fees paid to my attorney.

This system is broken and needs fixing. Currently, I have a son that I pay child support for and the mother has done everything in her power to prevent me from seeing this child. Again, I have to pay an attorney to be able to have the state enforce my right to see the child. I can not just call up the Texas State Attorney and ask them to prosecute the ex for not allowing me to see my child. On the Contrary, In Colorado, the AG will work with both the custodial and non-custodial to work for the benefit of the children. Here in this Redneck State of Texas, they only care about how much money is going into the State bank account. That is there only concern. Of course, they will tell you on their website how much they are concerned for the welfare of the children. You may believe whatever you wish. However, I know for a fact they only are concerned about prosecuting the non-custodial parent and collecting funds to increase their bank account.
