Greg, Anyone have advice??

by Greg
(Peoria, Il USA)

I fathered a child at the age of 19 with his mom 18 at the time. She had child support taken immediately with the help of her mom and attorney. She was then married for a number of years and recently divorced her husband. While married she actually stated that the child support she received was a blessing given her and her husbands income. It is now 10years later from original support petition...she is now divorced wants more money. I am married and have two children/wife/and stepchild that I am responsible for. I love my son (11 yrs old) but feel I am getting hammered by his moms decisions in life. Again she only has 1 child and is going to get 20 % of my entire family's income which is a large chunk. To top it I would gladly take my son under our roof and do not feel it would cost me 750 month to care for him...This is not right can any one help?? Please.

You made an unstandable boo-boo given your age at your child's conception. My question to you is, why haven't you taken more aggressive measures? There is certainly more that you can and should do immediately to get your son back in your custody. If you don't have a father's rights attorney you should certainly secure one. If you can't get one then call your child's child support office or father's rights office and hammer some heads!Write the state director, ask for a state hearing, rattle some cages and maybe some teeth. Review your state child support laws and don't forget the eight major federal laws, apply them yourself. Sometimes attorneys are not worth the power to blow them up, personally I do my own work, it's been worth it. You have to make persistent but polite calls and write persistent but polite letters.
