13 years of struggling with Alabama c/s laws by: Anonymous
My son & I live in Tennessee now and have the same issues-we've been referred to as "gap participants". This means I am not of the right income level, either direction, nor race, creed, color or gender to get proper, functioning assistance. Tennessee laws apply in no form or fashion, they can only merely sent a request to Alabama to collect the arrearages (already been to a private attorney to see about moving it all to Tennessee as their laws are tougher). Before moving I had already been through the Alabama DHR's idea of help to collect back child support (they managed to sit on their thumb long enough for him to take me to court...and he won). I won't even go through the horror story that continues to this day. I just work 2 & 3 jobs and keep plugging away to provide the life our son needs.
My heart goes out to all that have to deal with child support issues through Alabama. The system in Alabama is extremely screwy & messed up. I can see why so many folks think that the state is backwards. Alabama ranks as one of the worst child support states...a title they truly have earned. The boys in Montgomery are true leaders and believe in equal rights for all. Gotta love those Good Ole Boys in Montgomery!

I feel your pain by: Anonymous
I am having the same problem too. My ex lives in Al and we live in Md. and I have not received a dime as of yet. And to make matters worse I found out he claimed one of the kids on his tax return. How is this even legal? If I have to pay for a lawyer then I will. Because he needs to be stopped.

SAME ISSUE by: Anonymous
Glad to see someone out there that is having the same problem as I am. 17 years now and only a handful of payments have came in. You are right they need to do something about this issue.
