Mother of three

by Pamela
(Atlanta, GA)

I was married for 7 years and had a one year old son and 3 year old twin daughters. My husband did not want to commit to his family full-time, so I decided to leave and relocate to Atlanta. I went to the Family Court in the Bronx to file for child support. I was a stay at home mom at the time and had no other source of income. My children were awarded a fair amount of support. Fast forward 3 years later, to today. I filed for divorce but my husband is giving us a hard time. He has now stopped paying support, since September of 2009. I have been employed since leaving him, but it is not enough to raise three children under the age of 7 alone. He has a financial and physical obligation to support his children, but he has refused to do so. Earlier this year, I enrolled in a Masters of Education program (online) so that I can get a better paying job in a few years so that I can support my three children. How is it that he can just stop paying and nothing is being done? I filed several employee compliance complaints through NYSCE, but nothing has happened. From my understanding, NYSCE is supposed to advocate for my children. What is the TRUE mission of NYSCE? We go hungry and face eviction on a monthly basis. How does something like this happen in America? We should set the example for the world, since we boast about being #1. The system is failing our children. How can our children rise above adversity, if the foundation that they need is not strong? What now?
