NO ACCOUNTABILITY for child support RECIPIENTS??

My husband is a wonderful father to my Step-son. There are never issues with his payments.

The EX is constantly arguing about money, asking for money, nickels and dimes him, and tries to get an increase at least every other year. She outright refuses to work, and has put the child on free lunch in school-she is not adding her current husband's income. She is paid $600 for one child!

Each time she has received an increase, my Step-son seems to spill the beans...mom bought this, mom got her nails done but didn't take me for a haircut, mom hired someone to clean, mom buys a lot of cigarettes and beer, etc. ISN'T CHILD SUPPORT SUPPOSED TO GO TO THE CARE OF THE CHILD???

We have to submit tons of documentation when we're made to fork over additional money...WHY DOESN'T THE RECIPIENT HAVE TO SHOW ANYONE WHAT SHE IS SPENDING THE SUPPORT ON???? Why do we have to be accountable for our earnings and payments, but she does not have to be accountable for showing the money is in fact going towards the needs of the child???? This needs to be fixed!!!

Maybe support payments should strictly be used for specific things (ex.-food-receipts to show no alcohol/tobacco; clothing-receipts submitted as proof of size.) Use a system where the support can be offered as a state voucher or gift cards to grocery or clothing stores. Let the support payment be made to one specific utility bill. SOME FORM OF ACCOUNTABILITY IS NEEDED!!! TRANSPARENCY!!

Amazed and confused

I'm from England where everything else is in the dark ages but at least there's "accountability" for what child support is spent on - in order to ENSURE that it benefits the child(ren). Each of you should bring the topic up at your local "single" parents meetings and start a petition. Those paying child support will be all for it. Those receiving it should be all for it if they have nothing to hide. Get enough names and get the people at your group to , in turn, get names from single parents they know and take the 1000's of names to your local politician to start a bill. There's proof of precedence in certain states already - so this IS a bill that has been passed with success in states where people have cared enough to try! As a unified voice we will be heard but without unity & organization we will forever remain a bunch of people whose misery finds company - left to wonder what that money is being spent on!!

That makes me sick ! Shouldn't we all be concerned
that child support is just that, for the child !
If anyone can direct me where to go and/or what
to do in the state of Massachusetts....let's get this

Child support is based upon guidelines determined by the amount each parent makes and the monthly health insurance and child care expense. The overnight visits the non-custodial parent has is factored in if they get beyong a certain point. Nobody is going to change that system any time soon. If the child support is being mispent, and you can prove that, ask for custody and/or more time with the child(ren).

The woman I was with was and still is crazy. I was going through major problems at home and like clock work i run into an old college FRIEND. WE date, I wanted to end it, she did not. The very last time we did the do afterward she says " I aint on the pill anymore"! Life ends for me!! Her choice is to bring a child in this world to an unwilling father. Never mind the fact it will be hard as hell to raise the child alone. So, like a man I was sending money to the woman on my own every other week like clock work. This was not enough, the woman took me to court to get more money!!!!!! And the woman says to me, what does it matter to you, its just MONEY!!!!! When will our elected officials help men who can prove entrapment. Lord for give me for the hate I have for that woman and the bastard child.

The first thing that I heard from my kids after starting to pay child support was that my ex husband and his wife had joined a gym and hired personal trainers, but they apparently can't afford to keep health insurance on the children, and have asked my husband to do so, who is not the father of these children, and would have to give my ex (who stole and ran up my father's credit cards) his SSN to cover the children. I'd rather divorce my current husband than allow my ex access to that information. It's not that I don't want my children covered, but I think that my ex needs to be living up to his end of the divorce decree and covering the children, and frankly, I don't trust him with my hubby's personal information.

Yes yes I agree there needs to be accountablity for child support but the system is extremely broken and needs to be fixed. But no one wants to get involved until it is happening to them and them system is very aware of that. People only see it here and there and its not affecting them so why should they care. People need to open there eyes and realize that most child support recipients can go on about there lives and enjoy there lives knowing that they have a pay check coming. They can seek out new relationships, jobs, new houses, cars, and the enjoyment of being a part of there childs life, while the payee , get to go to jail, have garnishments, have a hard time at a new relationship or new family, no new house or car because evrytime you think you can afford somethig the recipient goes in and asks for more money and gets it so much for a far living or life to the payee. I hate what this country has done to familys, they have made it all about money not about family. Good luck I am still fighting for change.
