No Support, But Claims Their Fame!

by Julianne
(Harlan, IA)

My ex-husband is on his second stint of not working for an extended period of time. He only is ordered to pay $400 for my twin 14 year old boys. He lives in the same small town, has no phone. He never attends any of their many sporting events. We are in a sport all year round. They really excel in wrestling, qualifying for the state tournament 4 years now. They sure are his kids when their picture is in the paper and he brags about them. Most people know that he has no communication. My parents live out of state and see my boys more often than his family who is all here. None of them support their activities either. I have two great boys who love and support me. They show me great respect, but even if he paid his child support it would barely keep them in milk. The boys activities are more than $400 a month. Yes I could scale back their activities, but they have worked hard and earned their fame as great athletes and leaders. Both have made Life Scout and are working on their Eagle Scout rank. What more could a mother ask for?

It is really hard to not discuss his lack of involvement with the boys. I am trying to raise men without a positive male role model in their life.

While we were traveling for Mother's Day weekend, one son asked me " Mom, will my kids get my Dad's worthless genes?" I explained it in DNA terms, but it broke my heart that a 14 year old is already worrying about his future children.
