Not Sure What to do

by Erin
(Michigan)

My mother and father split up before I was even born. I am now 17 years old, and I have not met my father or received child support from him. Every time he got a job, and people would find him, he would quit so that he would not have to pay child support. My mom got in contact with my dads father, but he did not want to cooperate. He didn't want to tell us where my father was, and he also wouldn't give my father my mothers number. At that time, it wasn't even about child support. It was about me knowing my other half. My mom contacted Friend of Court and we have a court date coming up. My mother said he will probably not even bother going, but if he doesn't. . What will happen next? I agree with my mom, since I've never met the man, but after I turn 18 in 4 months, will he still be liable to pay the money that he owes? I have these questions in my head all the time. I never realized how many other people are without their fathers as well. I recently found out that I have older brothers and sisters, but he abandoned them as well.
