PLEASE HELP THE SINGLE PARENTS...

by SAMANTHA BOYD
(AUSTIN,TX)

I'm a custodial parent and I must say that the laws in Texas are more favorable to a parent that is on government assist vs. a single mom that has to take up 2 jobs-to compensate for the absence of financial help from the NCP. My daughter is now 13years old and the TX AG office has done nothing! When she was 2 years old, I gave them his SS#, address, ph# .etc and he was now just set up on WW last year. He went into hiding and took jobs that paid him under the table. The AG office does not pick up the phone to call him, his parents, relatives or anything to see why I had to get on Government assistants due to him not paying child support. All they do is send them out letters and tell me to call them back within 30days for a follow up on the case. Not once has he or any other NCP served time in jail as the laws say he's supposed to. I think if we actually enforced the "contempt of court" order and actually put these men in jail...the single parents would have some sort of leverage and more of a guarantee on collecting the child support vs. waiting until the NCP is collecting IRS refund or SSD. Can someone help us single parents?

Pissed off, too
by: Lynette

There's nothing I can say...everyone here has pretty much covered it all. So maybe if the Child support offices could read these, maybe, just maybe we'd get some help?

I even went so far as to write the Family Court Commissioner AND the District Attorney...I was told they don't have enough proof that he is "intentionally" not paying.
Well, I'm sure there's a McDonalds out there somewhere that will hire the dead beat!!

I am desperate because I do not have my son with me..
by: Anonymous

I am a non-custodila parent and I was the one who suggested to go to the child support office when my 13 month old son was born because I knew it was going to be a nightmare. Now, I try everyday to be the best father in the world but I have not been able to because his Mom does not allow it. I have been paying child support until now, more than what the law says and even when I was unemployed for over six months, I was still payinng child support and my son had been living with me until last week because she got upset. It is a very frustraiting situation and I think the child support office, the CPS and all the agencies should work together to make sure children have everything they need and not only the financial support.
I have filed for custody and going to court next Friday but I only pray to GOD to bless my son and provide him with everything he needs and deserves for a healthy and stable life. Please, pray for Andrei.

Get Justice
by: Anonymous

I am of the belief, if you cannot get the money....get the pound of flesh. If a man doesn't pay court-ordered child support he should be incarcerated, inconvienanced, and shamed. I'd rather see him sit in the jail than do what he does best....NOTHING. If nothing else... he has a permenate court record of his abandonment of child support. This tells the public something about the character of the man...BAD. Go with the, "eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" level of justice, if the non-custodial is going to be a deadbeat! If the shoe was on the other foot...trust me, yo, as the custodial parent did not financial and medically take care of your children you would be in jail. So, why should he not be? Go get your justice and make him miserable!

Process server

You would be better served to hire a process server and get them to serve the warrant if the state is not being proactive.

Disgusted with our legal system!
by: Anonymous

My ex was placed on what they call the Monitering System which was to keep better tabs on dead beats. This was back in 2000 and as of today he owes thousands of dollars. He is just a drunk that has his mother support his habits then brings him to my house drunk so he can see the kids! We just went to court however he was a no show ONLY because he is looking at 180 days in jail. They advised that they would send a car for him but that was a LIE. Now it can be a few days to months - and they have to catch him doing something wrong?!?!?!?!?!??!? He did something wrong - not supporting his kids! When they do put them in jail they need to make them work for the county picking up trash - pooh whatever. But they need to pay them minimum wage and send the checks to the kids. Why lock them up - you still get nothing and they have a rent free place with three meals a day. We have to work, find sitters and people to help take care of our kids so we can support them. Who is ouR system for the victims or criminal - My opion is for the Criminal!

You are not alone...
by: Anonymous

You are not alone I'm in the same situation. My NCP lived right here in the same town as we did and they could never locate him now, that he has moved out of state or so he says he may never be found. I've given the OAG office every and all information spouse name, cell number address (when its avail) and they still can not locate him. Its funny! This is a government system and with all the resources they have they can not locate these deadbeat. It is truly a shame that it takes this long. I'm afraid my kids will be 18 before and if any child support payments are due. Its a shame the good parents who take care of their responsiblity suffer for those who do not take care of their kids. Perhaps I should apply for welfare maybe my case will then take priority.

Exactly
by: Sue

I have the same situation but with a bio-mom, she owes over $50,000.00 in support and the AG's office and the Courts for that matter refuse to hold her accountable for her actions - or lack there of!!! The system needs a complete and total overhaul as it fails more children each day than anyone can really count!!! it's the sad truth of our lovely legal justice system!

WV CS Laws Are No Good Either!!!
by: Selena

I gave my case worker my sons fathers full name, social security #, tag # to his vehicles, addresses to the two businesses he had, his mothers address and phone number and a address where I thought he lived. He had 2 open cases already in the system for which he was paying child support. I went to court the Family Law Master told me that they tried to serve the papers but couldn't find him and the state had no further interest to pursue my case and that it was within my best interest to obtain a lawyer. If I could afford an attorney obviously I wouldn't have went to Family Court and represented MYSELF!! Hello are they serious?!?! However, if I was on state assitance I can't confidently say that they would do whatever to find him so that the state could receieve their money back!!! But because I am a struggling mother working and doing things on my own, THEY DO NOT CARE!!!!!!!!!!!

I am right there with you!
by: Anonymous

I am with you girl!! I have gone thru the same things with the office in AR I just talked to the OCSE and asked why they didn't call my ex and they told me it doesn't do any good to call because the non custodial parent won't answer the phone so they don't want to waste their time trying to call!! The laws are messed up and the office told me if I don't like it then I should write my congressman!! Sometime, Somehow things need to change so our children will get the support they deserve and are entitled to. After all why should the ex get away with not paying support if they were not paying their taxes they would be arrested. So where does it seem the goverment's priorities lie???
