Single mothers plight

by Megan
(Fort Worth Texas)

To start off i have 2 children and my ex husband is $11000 behind.I know that my be small to some of you others.I am trying to help,I am a sophmore in college writing a proposal to the state rep with the help of my english professor. My proposal is along the lines of how there is this law of child support in place but from my experience and a few other experience obviously its not enforced. Its a law there should be consequences for those who break it.I understand that things happen people loose jobs, but to distinguish the real fathers from the dead beat fathers and to take appropriate action on those who truly do not give a damn.If any of you single parents have ever had to turn to goverment assistance such as food stamps, medicaid, or TANF you know that its not easy to get their are alot of requirements esp for TANF.They monitor you closely make sure that you are looking for a job,you have to turn in so many job search hours a week and even when you do get a job they still monitor you by showing them your time card in order to still recieve assistance. What they dont realize is many of the parents they are monitoring are having to seek assistance because they are not getting child support or insurance from the other parent as ordered by state law. They should be monitoring the parent whos not paying staying on them, then possibly that will eliminate some of the funds spent on welfare and allow to go somewhere more needed and that would also distinguish fathers who are really tryin and just suffering from the falling economy from those fathers who really just dont give a damn and think they shouldnt have the responsibility. Then they could punish those properly by letting them sit there rears in prison and work for the state!! Thanks to everyone who has posted your responses have really helped me with my paper as well. I may be shooting big but where there is a will there is a way as my professor says anything is possible.

I want to help!
by: Stepmother of 3

I've posted a few comments on this site about the custodial parents of my stepchildren so not so nice. But I'm happy to see that someone on the other side of the fence see's a problem. I have 3 stepchildren the oldest lives with his mother while the youngest lives with their grand parents or (biological great aunt and uncle) their mother was raised by them, because real parents couldn't take care of her. Yes my husband has 3 children by 2 diffent women first child was born when he was 16. Since his first child was born my husband has worked to take care of his children, he busts his butt to make sure that his children have everything they need of want! But do to the system he is supporting his first ex wife, his son, and her other son from another man as well as his youngest 2. So in all he is supporting 5 people two of which is not his resposiblity.

His first exwife states she can't work because her son from another man is disabled, I understand it must be hard with a disabled child, but I have also worked with a mother in my home town with a child with the same diablity, this girl goes to school, and even drives her own car with contrals on the stering wheel an she is going to graduate this year. I feel that my husbands ex just uses her disabled child as an excuse not to work. Then their is the case of the youngest 2 childrens mother who is only allowed to see the children the second sat. of every month for 8 hours. We can get the children any time we want. We want to get custody of all the children some day soon, which the youngest two won't be a problem, but the oldest one we will have to wait 2 years until he is of legal age to decide where he wants to live. I would like to help you in any way so please email me at gill88fan@aol.com or Shantell that left the other comment on this page because her and I would like to help. We have been emailing each other for a few months and we want a change!

I want to help

I would really like to assist you in drafting your bill. I feel that child support is unfair to fathers. Fathers are not allowed to see their children if the woman is mad because he has moved on with another woman. The mother is allowed to quit her job but if he quits his he goes to jail. I read these post about men being past due and all I can say is they must be those men that are homeless or are without jobs. My husband is on unemployment and they are garnishing his unemployment checks! I am like dang, how am I suppose to pay the mortgage if the little bitty money he is getting is going to his child's mother who doesn't have a job and has multiple children by multiple men. Unwed couples who have children then separate should have different child support guidelines then those that are divorced but then even divorced father find it hard to survive after paying child support plus alimony. Are you taking all of this into account as you write your bill? Please email me at eshantell@hotmail.com. I would really like to talk to you one on one. Thanks.
