Soon to be student

by Ryan
(Albuquerque)

I recently had a job in the aviation industry. While working there I was recently promoted to the position of manufacturing engineer. I was being paid much less then my peers because I have no degree in engineering. As of 2 weeks ago the company I worked for filed chapter 7 bankruptcy, and now I find myself unemployed. I am collecting unemployment benefits, and still do my once a month air guard reserves weekend. I wanted to see about lower my child support payments due to the fact that my main source of income is no longer there. But while I am unemployed I have seriously considered taking advantage of my GI bill, and going to school to get a degree in electrical engineering, and take a job part time. Is the fact that I want to go back to school going to cause an issue with trying to get my payments lowered? My other question, when the court takes into consideration the household income, do they also consider the income of the spouse? My daughter's mother (we never married) has gotten married and now has another child. Do they also take into consideration the cost that a non-custodial parent has such as a mortgage payment. I want to try and keep my home as well as help my daughter.

Don't hold your breath

Don't think for a minute that any Child Support enforcement agency will work to reduce child support. They claim to look at your earning potential based on previous work history. Doesnt matter if you lose your job, they still want you to pay somehow. They're kind of like credit card companies in that they want to keep you in the system as long as they can. If you don't pay, the fees will continue to add up and you will never escape it.

As far as the other parent's income; it depends on the state law. In the Fkd-up Texas System, they only look at the non-custodial parent's income. Tramps like the one I was married too can sit on thier ass' and collect child support or welfare.

It's like this; your money is their money and their money is their money!
