The Attorney Generals Office in the Great State of Texas

by Kimberly
(Big Spring Texas)

I went to court today, the attorney generals office started to attempt to get the minimal state child support, I only receive 154.00 a month for two chidren, instead because my x chooses not to work the lawyer for the attorney genrals office stood up and stated that he felt me x should pay no child support. Thank goodness I had hired a lawyer because if I hadn't I would have nothing. We kept the child support the same, but I did get payments of 92.00 on the health insurace. He still has to pay 100.00 a month on the back owed child support. I really thought that the Attorney Generals office was suppose to look out for the best interest of the children, how is it in the best interest of the children to order no child support. Funny thing my tax money pays this mans salary and my x who pays no taxes was the one they supported. I feel that some thing needs to be done to investigate the attorney generals office on these cases, apparently they have a serious problem. So if you are using the attorney generals office out of Midland Texas, I strongley suggest that you hire a lawyer to look out for yours and youre childs rights they certainly wont. I wish there was a way we could all get together and lobby for child support reform and an investigation into the actions of the attorney generals office.

You are leaving something out of this story, first of all the AG office lawyer is their for you and the child(ren) why in the HELL did you waste money on a lawyer, the AG office represents you. Second, if your ex isn't working then you will only get the minum! So before you ever dicide to make comment, make sure you get your story straight, and include all the facts because you are hiding something!!!!

Yep, No lawyer could argue for no child support. It's against the law. These liars make it bad for everyone with a legitimate concern.

Need an attorney?
by: Anonymous

Although the amount you receive sounds minimal, it should be based on 20% of the non-custodial parent's income. If he doesn't make that much money, then there's nothing you can do to force him to pay more. I find it hard to believe any family law attorney suggested he shouldn't pay anything. Obviously, there's something you're not saying here. As far as getting an attorney of your own, I think that was a waste of time and money because the AG is there to ensure non-custodial parents pay their share. The law requires it. Basically, you spent money unnecessarily because the AG will open a case and set it for court. I know, because I just went. Now, they are making me pay $1202.00 a month for one child based on 20% of my net income. So, if you're going to tell a story, tell it all. Yours does not add up.

If you go to the AOG's website and click on the fantastic little video of what happens when you go to court with them, you will hear that the AOG does not represent ethier party. They are there simply to allow you to discuss your case. Hiring a lawyer is a preference, and if that is what she wanted to do, then that does not make it a waste of money. It is peace of mind. The AOG is simply trying to get child support established in the case.
