The state is not helping itself

My story.... my husband is being forced to pay more than we can afford to pay so that my two kids and I have to do without. We even sat without electricity for a month because we couldn't afford to pay our bills and what the court is ordering him to pay. They never gave him the DNA test he asked for because we couldn’t afford a lawyer. He is father by default because he was in another state and couldn't make the court hearing. The mother doesn't even want the case open anymore or the back pay so that she can have the child adopted by the man she knows as daddy, but the state refuses to close it. I don't see how that is in the best interest of the child or the state. I mean, really, they pay us more back in the form of welfare as food stamps and medicate for my kids. How does taking a man's license and professional licenses away help? Then he really can't afford to pay. Plus, charging more than he can afford hurts everyone more in the long run, including the state. Thank God, he got appointed a lawyer that is helping us get his rights terminated according to the mother's wishes!

Too bad

If a man does not raise the legal issue that a child of a relationship is not his within a statutory time frame, then he is defaulted. Shame on him for not following through and protecting himself legally. He will now pay out the **** until the child turns 18. Knowing the reality...you both, must find a way to financially cope. "It is, what it is."

I am in the exact same boat! The mother once mentioned the father terminating his rights. Does that stop child support. This system is just because the greedy ass government doesn't want to have to help these custodial parents. It holds one parent responsible for a break up, and makes that parent pay, severely, regardless of his/her own immediate family. It doesn't mandate pay or time, its all about pay; which makes the child merely a pay check. This is why some men try to commit women when they say they are pregnant, and why someone women lie on men, saying that a child is his when it is not. If you can't afford to take care of a child, give him or her up! If you can't afford to take care of a child, KEEP YOUR DAMN LEGS CLOSED!
