Tired of Fighting the System for my children

by Wendy
(Clinton, IN)

I am a 31-year-old single mother of 3 beautiful girls. I have been fighting the system and my ex husband for the last 13 years to get him to step up and be a man and help out with the girls. When we first split up, I refused help from the County to collect child support because I wanted to believe him when he said "I'm doing my best and I will send you 150 a week". Well I only received 3 of those payments then he told me that he couldn't afford it, BUT he could afford to go to 17 KISS concerts, gambling and other things. Off and on for the last 11 years he has paid and quit through the State of Indiana and many of those times, I had to be the one to call my case worker and tell her WHERE he was at and where he was working because they obviously don't care. She gets annoyed with me when I call all the time and ask questions about my case, so I have called Gov. Mitch Daniels and my rep. Dale Grubb and I always get the same goose chase that so many others do. My ex is ordered to pay 244.00 a week w/ 20 on his arrears, being in the whole almost 30,000.00. He has a tax w/holding for the next 15 years, which because he is now married, that money will be held up for 6 more months. I am so frustrated, I work and go to school so that I can provide my girls with what they need and not have to stress so much about this issue, but until then how am I going to buy school clothes, put a roof over their head, pay for their books, get braces for them on just my income? I don't qualify for public assistance because of the child support order? So what options do I have? This is complete BS of the system if you ask me.

Tired of Fighting the System

Wendy, with all due respect...if you quit fighting for what you and your children are due you will I promise, regret it deeply, bitterly the rest of your life. You'll always wonder what would have been, could have been if you'd just kept punching and praying (I know praying works I am witness). I've been at this fight for 25+years, it's all arrearages now. I didn't have deadbeat laws to support me as I do now so there was a years break in the money chase. If you must take a quick break, then do that but keep fighting. Your kids could end up also deeply regretting that you quit the fight too, what example are you setting for them? In the end, if money is still owed(probably) when he files for retirement, you get 65% a month automatically. Whether he has medical needs or not.
