I have two kids that I pay child support on and love dearly. I was 17 years old when my son was born, the mother was 21. I was not sure he was mine and requested a DNA test from the mother. The mother did not want this. So being young and naive I let time pass. When he was about three I pressed the issue again to no avail. I even went to meet them at a park and they never showed up. Time passed and all of a sudden I get a call out of the blue from the mother wanting a court case to prove I'm the father when my son turned eight. She stated she wanted a DNA test and was not going for back child support and wasn't even bringing a lawyer.

I arrive at court and find her with a lawyer that wanted to go for 16,000 back child support! I couldn't believe it because of what she told me just the night before. Talk about getting the wool pulled over your eyes. Interesting note: I figured maybe she waited so long due to a possible statutory rape law, because I was 17 and she was 21 at the time?

At any rate, I got bad advise and agreed to $6,000 in back child support. I didn't realize the state was charging me 12% interest. Highway robbery. I don't understand how they can charge interest when no money was fronted.

So I have been paying my current child support with an extra $170 a month for the back child support and am barely making a dent on the atrocious twelve percent interest. I feel as though I am continually getting ripped off.

Anyways, about two years ago I convince the mother of my son to clear the back arrears because of my credit also now being affected by the back child support. She agrees we go down to the local office and after waiting for hours we finally see someone. We both state that the back arrears have been paid and we want the balance cleared. The person were talking to all of a sudden states that a child support officer isn't actually in the office. So he would make a note of it in the system. So days, weeks and months pass without hearing a word. I try speaking to the office and get no where. So I figure child support makes it easy to file a complaint so I do that three times starting two years ago and have heard nothing up to this date.

Then about a week after going down to the child support office, I try to use my bank card and find out my checking account has been frozen by the attorney general. At the time my son was living with me and I was still paying child support. At the time also I was not paying enough on the arrears so the 12% mushroomed up to 10,000 dollars. I was paying child support every month on time for the previous years. So checks bounced and I had tons of check charges which the bank wouldn't drop. So here I was as usual holding the bag again. After two weeks of not having any money and stating my son was living with me they unfroze my bank account but the damage was already done.

IT IS NOT ABOUT THE KIDS FOLKS. IT'S ABOUT MONEY, GREED AND UNFORTUNATELY US DO-GOOD FATHERS FEEL THE BRUNT OF IT. My ex-wife goes on vacation five times a year to the Caribbean. My last vacation was a year and half ago to Arkansas. She has worked maybe for two months her entire life. I have worked non-stop my entire life and pick up my daughter every other weekend 250 miles round trip. The ex-wife never meets me half way. I love my son and my daughter more than anything in the world. I wish the attorney general would do what's really best for the kids and some mothers weren't so damn greedy.

new outlook on child support

Okay my cousin has a baby. After they split up, she wasn't even worried about him or child support. He would see the kids and spend time with them when they go to his mom's house.When she found out he had a girlfriend and they had a baby on the way, she went and filed for child support. My cousin filed for ssi in 2005. He was served papers in 2008. So justlast month, he went and filed a motion to stop support payments and cancel arrears. He was 8,000 behind in arrears. The x was talking all this big talk before the hearing to her boyfriend. She had an attorney and thought there was no possible way he could get out of child support. They went into the hearing. Of course her attornet did all the talking for her. My cousin represented his self. All he did was show them the paper that stated that he was receiving supplemental security. They granted him everything. She was looking so stupid. But he knows that he still has to take care the children. But at least he'll feel better knowing that he can live and take care of his kids without being forced. He wasn't able to get his license, nothing could be in his name without garnishments. Now he can have all that. Plus take care of his kids willingly.

unfare rip off. Back CP and 12%

To start with it takes two not just me to have children and I didn't choose to leave a good home. Then when I am Injured and am off from work for 10 mos. with no Income witch I would have not had Income even I was still married and got behind Then came the 12% and 20 years of compounding monthley It does not take long for you to be creating more Interest than you are making in principal. I think we need to look at who is the thief here with opec interest rates here you will never get these depts payed. And when you go to court I am sick of a judge telling me they don't care thats the way it is B.S. And then after they tell you to go bowrrow the money but you cant because the A.G.has it reported to the credit breaus How do they expect you nto come up with any thing I'll tell you THEY DONT CARE EITHER. I tryed to get my x to help by lowering the arears but the A G says no I wouldn't do that. Hey as crooked as the 12% is I wouldn't put my name on it because they would probly send out someone to kill me. I hope every one can come togather and vote these brain dead turkeys who vote for this outrages Interest and Hi powered folks out of office. I have nothing against paying support and believe every one should but it should be fair and not a laid back get rich scheme. The bad thing is Men Make These Laws But when they get a divorce they get custody thier ex's have to pay them And I know of a few personally. But I live with it knowing that GOD see's all and no good or bad deed will go unpunished by him. Maby we are having global warming maybe there are quiet a few down there heeping up the coals. Ill get off the soap box now Hope this helps someone somehow.

Ex-wife Strikes Again

I have paid child support directly to the EX-wife for 17 years. In Feb 2009 she told me that I needed to continue paying after our last child was emancipated. I refused, an argument pursued. One month later,exactly six weeks before my youngest turns 18, she opens a case with California Child Support Services for spousal and child support arrears. She claims that from 1993 to 2000 that I made partial payments. Always short by $75 to $150.00 short for seven straight years. I have always paid child/spousal support in full but, she knew that the bank would only keep records for seven years. The total spousal/child support for due from 1991 to 2009 was $120642.00 and the amount paid prior to the claim being opened was $119533.45,a difference of $1108.55. Child Support Services says that I owe $22950.68 in principal and $9734.42 in interest. Based on how the ex-wife fills out the claim application, you could be forced to pay again with interest. She said to me at court,"this would not have happened if you had only agreed to continue to pay me. On that same day the Child Support Services supervisor handling the case said to me, "You knew that you have not been paying her all those years. This lady does not know anything about what I have paid nor does she even know me. This claim is a form of extortion assisted by California child support services. I wouldn't feel so bad about it if I was a deadbeat Dad. I have given my children, televisions, stereos, Gameboys,games and a Ford SUV. I have been to every birthday celebration for 18 yrs. I was paying extra child support for the last 8yrs. Trying to help out with the increasing cost of rasing teenagers.Why did she wait 18 yrs to do this? We will let the courts decide if this is right. Just like they say,"The nice guy always comes in last." Keep detailed records of time and money spent for child support.

This problem is on going, and its just agravatting! But we all need to start taking a stand and write our legislature, we all vote on these people to change the laws and if they are not going to change them then we need to say that we are not going to vote for these people. They are the ones that can change the laws, and if we all stop supporting them someone would get the point! I watched the tea party in San Antonio on fox news yesterday about diffent issues that voters are upset about and have come to the conclusion that child support is all politics, and greed! The AG makes money for every NCP that pays child support the more they collect the more they get The hard working Americans are the ones that get screwed. The politicians, don't! We are they ones that pay their way and I'm tired of it! Just writing a complaint to the local AG office doesn't work! We need to start taking these complaints to the Politicians and I MEAN OVER FLOOD THEIR OFFICES WITH COMPLAINTS, AND THEY WILL SEE, that if something doesn't get changed we are not going to support them in an up coming election and hopefully they would see their is a real problem.
