VA Child Support for the Parents

Child Support- payments made for the support of children of divorced or separated parents while the children are minors or until they reach an age set by the separation agreement or in a court order.

Virginia child support laws share some similarities to most states in America. When researching child support laws in different states, you can see similar relations of information that are given.

For example, the actions that are taken to enforcing the child support laws, how child support is paid, which parent would provide a medical plan, visitations, and when child support will end.

VA Child Support Enforcements
Child support enforcement occurs only when non-custodial parents avoid their obligations to paying child support. VA child support states that if the non-custodial parent refuses to pay support, then the custodial parent has the right to sue and have child support enforced. Below are enforcement acts that will occur when non-custodial parents avoid their responsibilities.

Taxes: Virginia child support will intercept all state and federal income tax return refund checks from all non-custodial parents who are behind or refuse to pay child support.

Liens: Liens can be placed on any personal or real estate properties if non-custodial parents fall behind or refuse to pay child support.

Credit Agency: Virginia child support enforcement will report any past due child support to a credit bureau. This means if the non-custodial parent fails to make timely payments, then they risk damaging their credit score.

Assets: Any assets such as cd’s, stocks, bonds, retirement funds, or savings accounts that are obtained by non-custodial parents will be confiscated or garnished if child support is past due.

Licenses: Suspension of the driver’s license is another form of action Virginia child support uses to enforce child support payments. Occupational license can also fall under suspension if child support is not paid.

If all else fails, you are allowed to push for stronger enforcement. When a non-custodial parent is faced with the above enforcements and still refuses to pay, then you can take them to court where if found in contempt, can face up to 12 months in jail.

VA Child Support Medical Insurance
Every child in America needs some sort of medical attention. Parents who divorce or separate have to make sure their children receive proper medical care. VA child support can order either parent to provide health coverage for their children. (I live in the state of Texas ,and I am the parent who is responsible for my son's medical coverage.)

VA Child Support Wage Garnishment
Wage garnishment is a good idea for non-custodial parents paying child support. For instance, the non-custodial parents are no longer responsible for mailing payments every month, and the custodial parents can rest assure that their child support payments will be on time. VA child support garnishes the non-custodial parent’s earnings and then sends it to the Virginia state agency. When payments are received, they are verified, then sent to the custodial parents.

-Non-custodial parents who owe back child support will be charged interest until their payments are up to date.-Collect your Child Support!

Virginia Child Support Visitations
According to the Virginia child support laws, parents are free to visit their children at any time with the agreement of the custodial parent. If both parents are not able to reach an agreement on visitations, then the court would issue the standard schedule. The non-custodial parents would be able to visit their children every other weekend, one month and two weeks in the summer, and alternating holidays.

-It is very important that a child has a relationship with both parents. With increasing divorce rates, more and more children suffer without the privilege of having both parents in the same household. Divorced parents must set aside their differences and allow one another to have a close relationship with their children-

End of Child Support
VA child support payments usually ends when the child reaches the age of 18 or when the graduate from high school. Child support payments will continue if the non-custodial parent owes any back payments.

-No child was ask to be born, but while they are here on this earth, we as adults should take the responsibilities to look out for them. It is not their fault that parents file for a divorce or separate. Children need to be cared for even when parents go their separate ways. Protect your child and care for them the best way possible, for they deserve a wonderful, healthy life.-
